Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the district making up only 7 snow days when, by my count, we missed 8 days?
Monday, February 15th (Presidents’ Day) was in the original district calendar as a “no school” day for students and was to be used as a make-up day in the event that we missed 3 days. Since inclement weather forced us to close on February 15th, we reverted to the original plan to use that day as a no school/staff development day. The days missed and their assigned make-up days are as follows:
Day MissedMake-Up Day
January 7 May 26
January 8 May 27
February 9 May 28
February 10 June 1
February 16 June 2
February 17 June 3
February 25 June 4
Will we be in school any days during the scheduled spring break, March 29-April 2nd?
At this time, we will NOT be using any spring break days as make-up days. Of course, we can’t rule out an unforeseen event that would cause us to miss additional days of school, but it is highly unlikely that it would occur at this point in the year.
If we miss an additional day of school before the end of May, when will we make it up?
If we miss an 8th day of school, the make-up day will be on Monday, May 31st (Memorial Day). However, at this point, students are still scheduled to be out of school on May 31st.
Why can’t we use May 18th as a make-up day?
Kentucky law requires that our schools are closed on Primary Election Day, which occurs this year on May 18th.
Can we just add minutes to each school day between now and the end of school to make up enough time for the snow days?
No, state law prohibits doing so. It was allowed in previous years but can no longer be done.
Will the calendar changes due to inclement weather affect state testing dates?
Possibly. Since many districts statewide missed a large number of instructional days before the testing window, the Kentucky Department of Education has made a request to the US Department of Education to move testing dates to later in the year. We are waiting to find out if this request will be approved and if so, our testing window, scheduled for April 19th- 30th , may change. Please watch for further information on our testing dates.
