Tuesday, February 2, East Jessamine High played host to the inaugural meeting of Gov. Steve Beshear's Transforming Education in Kentucky Task Force. Student ambassador's served as guides for the members and guests,
Special Education students checked coats,
and the East Jessamine High Culinary Arts students provided a delicious and nutritious lunch.
Superintendent Lu Young (seen here greeting the Governor) noted how wonderful it was that Gov. Beshear took the time to say hello to all the students. "It showed his dedication to the students of Kentucky and his belief in the important role they play in the success of our state," said Young.
During his speech, Gov. Beshear laid out seven goals for the task force:
ONE to improve teacher recruitment and retention
TWO to ramp up the academic component of our career and technial schools
THREE to smooth out the transition from preschool to K-12
FOUR to figure out how to give every student the opportunity to ear college credits in high scool
FIVE to improve college readiness
SIX to make better use of technology
SEVEN to create a system of assessment that measures the things that employers value
