Last Spring, our students took the Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) which aligns with the Kentucky Academic Standards in each content area. KSA is administered in grades 3-8, 10 and 11 and measures student proficiency and progress on the standards. Based on these tests and other data collected from our district, there are a total of six indicators that contribute to the overall score:
Combined Reading and Math
Combined Science, Social Studies and Writing
Quality of School Climate and Safety Survey (Completed by students)
Progress of our English Learners
Post Secondary Readiness for our High School Students
Graduation Rate
The Kentucky Department of Education reports the overall performance level for school districts using a color rating scale. Jessamine County Schools scored in the YELLOW category for 2023-24. In addition, we are celebrating with the teams at Red Oak Elementary and Warner Elementary for earning a GREEN rating.
Our district has four schools that received a federal status of Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI). This designation is given to schools that have certain student groups that are consistently performing lower than their peers on the indicators described above. The identified group for the four JCS TSI schools is Students with Disabilities. Our district works hard to reduce barriers for learning and we will continue these efforts moving forward.
Below is information about the district data highlights we are celebrating and also the areas where we will focus attention as we continue to grow this year. In the coming weeks, parents/guardians will receive specific information in regards to individual school and student performance.
