East Jessamine Middle School

Today we hosted speaker Scott Harvey! Scott addressed our students regarding social media safety, bullying, and the appropriate ways students should follow up with their safety concerns.

In addition, we also hosted a leadership lunch where a small group discussed current issues they face as middle schoolers as well as potential solutions. Every day is a great day to be a East Middle Jaguar!

Mrs. Godbey's class was busy flipping flapjacks for their food lab and now the whole school is craving pancakes!

This is just another example of how EJMS is preparing our students with real life skills that extend well beyond the classroom.

If only every assignment paired so well with butter and syrup!

Jaiondre has a future in teaching! He was very engaging with classmates as he explained another way to discover approximations of square and cube roots in Mrs. Jacobs' math class.

Opportunities like these help our students build confidence, while demonstrating leadership as they share their knowledge and inspire their peers!🏫

Mrs. Harrell’s Agriscience class recently ventured to Kentucky State University for their Ag Round Up event!

Students kicked off the day with an inspiring motivational speech about the impact they can make on the world around them through agriculture. From there, they jumped into a variety of hands-on learning experiences that brought agriculture to life!

Students had the opportunity to:
🐄 Visit a livestock petting zoo
🐟 Explore an aquaponics station
🐝 Visit a beehive and learn about beekeeping
🌿 Plant their own herb garden
🤠 Learn how to rope
🌱 And so much more!

Experiences like these allow our students to explore the many career opportunities within agriculture while learning skills they can take with them beyond the classroom.💚

Can you believe that October begins this week and that next week is fall break?! Time is flying at EJMS and we are staying busy. This week we've got an assembly on Tuesday and then our first club day and annual Fall Flag Football Tournament on Friday.

Today, Mrs. Rollins’ class listened to “Solimar: The Sword of the Monarchs” by Pam Muñoz Ryan for First Chapter Friday. Not only did students get to explore new literature, but they were also able to participate in one of the many ways EJMS is actively celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month!

Jessamine County schools is partnering with Care Council for a book drive through the month of September to show just how true that is!

We are asking for gently-used children's books to redistribute to our primary students, with dropoff locations at Central Office and Jessamine County School libraries. Let's come together, as a community, so we can make sure every home can experience the joys of reading! 📚

Hello EJMS Community - Welcome back to another great week! It was such fun seeing all of students dress out for spirit week for School Safety last week. Now, we're through our first midterm and gearing up for two great weeks before fall break - time is flying at EJMS! In this week's newsletter, please be sure to review the Title 1 presentation and fill out the Google form to sign our Family/School compact if you did not have a chance to do that at our block party a couple of weeks ago. We are required to have all of our families sign this as a Title 1 school. Thanks so much for your help with this! It’s time to PACK THE PANTRY! From 9/21 to 9/25, we’re kicking off a 1-week homeroom challenge, and it’s a BATTLE OF THE GRADES!

That’s right, homerooms will be competing grade-by-grade (6th vs. 6th, 7th vs. 7th, 8th vs. 8th) to see who can collect the most non-perishable food items. Every single item donated counts toward your homeroom’s total and directly supports families in our community!

THE PRIZE: The winning homeroom in EACH grade gets a DONUT PARTY!

How to participate:

-Bring non-perishable items (cans, pasta, boxed goods) to your homeroom.

-Teachers will track daily totals on the leaderboard. Fill those bins, help homeroom take the title for your grade and take the crown!

-Let’s see which homeroom has the most spirit. Let’s fill it up!
